This all began last Monday when I needed to have blood drawn for some lab tests. I called Student Health to make an appointment, but they told me I needed to call [address]. This baffled the hell out of me until I looked up the address online and poked around on the Student Health website a bit. I finally figured out that they'd rearranged things, and apparently they now draw your blood at the building where the actual lab tests are done rather than at Student Health. I suppose that makes sense, but it would have been nice if someone had told me that rather than just "you need to call [address]." Or at least said that the random address was actually the Outpatient Lab at Penn Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. But no, that would have made sense and saved me time. ::eyeroll::

Once I figured out what was up, I found the number for the Outpatient Lab and called them. They said I needed to call a different number to set up an appointment, so then I called that. And finally I had an appointment to go in the next afternoon to get blood drawn.

Tuesday. I went to the lab, went up to the reception desk, and told them who I was and that I had an appointment to have blood drawn for some lab tests.

Them: Do you have your paperwork?
Me: Uh. Paperwork... ?
Them: Do you have a [something I didn't quite catch] card?
Me: ::blank stare for a few moments:: Uh, look, I have this prescription sheet from my doctor that says what tests he wants done...
Them: You were referred from somewhere else?
Me: Er? Student Health told me I had to call you guys now. ::getting annoyed:: Look, I'm a Penn student, and I have an appointment.

Apparently that made some sort of light bulb go on over their collective heads, because they took my doctor's note and ushered me back into a room.

I will say, the positive things about this whole ridiculous experience was that the person who drew my blood was good. I mean, really good. I barely felt the needle at all, and she got two vials out of me in something like 30 seconds. Fastest, easiest blood draw ever. A helluva lot better than my last experience, that's for sure! ...Actually, the woman who did the blood draw was kind of a rude cow. But hey, she can say anything she wants as long as I don't come anywhere close to passing out!

Well. Fast forward a week to today. I'd been waiting to hear something from my doc about my test results (which they were supposed to fax to him), but everything had been silent. So I texted him (yes, my doctor texts with me. Yes, I think it's incredibly bizarre also) and asked if he'd received them yet. He said he hadn't, so I figured it was time to prod the people at the lab.

Called the lab, and the person there gave me the number to the office that handles lab results. Called that office, and the person there gave me a number for my doctor to call in order to get my test results. (Er. I can't have the results of my own tests myself?) I was tired of the whole damned thing and figured my doc might have better luck with them, so I let him know what was going on and gave him the number.

My doc spent half the day today trying to reach an actual human there and finally just left them a message. Haven't heard anything else.

::headdesk headdesk headdesk headdesk deaddesk::

I just want my damned test results! Honestly, how difficult should it be for them to give them to me?! ::tears at hair::

This new and improved system. So much simpler and more efficient than the old one! /sarcasm
